OCEANSIDE, CALIFORNIA – The San Diego truck accidents attorneys at our firm have learned that approximately 125 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the street and storm drain after a pickup truck hit a moving van in Oceanside Thursday. Witnesses told Police that the driver of a Nissan pickup truck was driving east on Mission Avenue around 1:30 p.m. He ran a red light and crashed into a moving truck at the intersection with El Camino Real. When the fuel cylinder was struck, it caused diesel to spill into the road as well as into the storm drain. The driver of the pickup was an Oceanside man in his 50s. He was taken to the hospital with head injuries. His injuries were not expected to be life threatening. The driver of the moving van did not have to be hospitalized. Drugs and alcohol were not thought to be factors in this accident. After the accident, southbound El Camino Real was closed between Mission and Vista Oceana for quite awhile. Traffic delays lasted several hours because hasmat and public works crews had to mop up the fuel and pump it out of the storm drain. As of 6 p.m. the road was still partially blocked.
