LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – Our California auto accidents attorneys have learned that Carol Eleana Vega of Huntington Park surrendered herself to the Los Angeles Police and was booked on Saturday. According to investigators, 29-year-old Vega was behind the wheel of her 1993 Chrysler Concord on Friday night. As she was driving in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles, she struck a 19-year-old woman, a 37-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl as they crossed the street. She then sped away, leaving the scene of the accident.
The three victims were taken to the County-USC Medical Center. It was there that the 19-year-old who was struck, Guadalupe Colmenares, was pronounced dead. 37-year-old Rita Colmenares was listed as in critical condition at the hospital. Her 14-year-old daughter, whose name has not been released, suffered lacerations and was also treated in the hospital. Police were looking for the hit-and-run driver with a description of the car when Vega finally turned herself in Saturday.
