EL CENTRO, CALIFORNIA – The San Diego truck accidents lawyers at our firm have learned that two men were killed in an accident in Imperial County Monday night. The men were in a big rig carrying frozen foods when they crashed into a steep rock wall off Interstate 8. The driver of the truck was heading east on I-8 west of state Route 98 when it crashed around 9 p.m. according to the California Highway Patrol.
Witnesses to the accident said the truck was heading down a steep decline about 55 miles per hour when it drifted to the right shoulder. At that time it slammed into the mountainside and the cab burst into flames. Firefighters later recovered the body of the driver, a 69-year-old man from Lakehead, and his passenger, a 43-year-old man from Palmdale, from the cab of the Freightliner. The men’s names have not yet been released.
