SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – 66-year-old Walt Daniels, a member of the San Diego Chargers’ game day staff died after a fall at Qualcomm Stadium. Daniels was in the press box before the Chargers Monday night game against the Denver Broncos. About three hours prior to the game, Daniels fell from the press box. He fell between 25 and 30 feet out a booth that is used by the away team assistant coaches. He was plugging in the phone cables when he fell backwards out of the booth. He landed on the loge level of the stadium.
Daniels sustained a head injury in the fall. He was administered CPR before he was taken to the hospital. After he left, workers had to clean up a pool of blood and the stadium doors opened 40 minutes later than they were supposed to. Daniels was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment. According to the County Medical Examiner’s Office, he died at 2:30 a.m.
The San Diego Charger’s website says that the San Diego Charger’s family is saddened by the loss of Walt Daniels. Walt loved the team and had been working in the press box on game day for more than 20 years. Many people in the San Diego athletic community knew Daniels; he will be greatly missed.
