HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA - A three car accident caused five people to be sent to different hospitals on Tuesday evening. The cars collided in the northbound lane of Highway 25 south of Shore Road in a construction area.
The California Highway Patrol said that the case is still under investigation, but drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been involved. Officials are unsure of the cause of the accident. However, they did confirm that a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager and a 1996 Geo Metro were stopped on Highway 25 around 8:30 p.m. Then a third car collided with the Voyager and caused it to hit the Geo.
Two young girls from the Voyager, a 1-year-old female and a 2-year-old female, were taken to Valley Medical Center in San Jose by helicopter with facial lacerations and head trauma. According to the CHP, there was child safety equipment in the van but it was not being properly used at the time of the accident. Another van passenger, a 6-year-old male, was transported by ambulance to Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy. The adult male and adult female in the van were both uninjured.
The 29-year-old male driver of the Geo was taken to Saint Louise as well. He complained of pain in his ankle and his chest. Units from CalFire, the San Benito Fire Department, and American Medical Response came to the scene. The accident is still under investigation and none of the victims names have yet been released.
