SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – A motorcyclist killed in an accident on Friday on Miramar Road has been identified as Marine Sergeant Michael Martins of Cape Coral, Florida. Martins was riding his motorcycle on Miramar Road near Cabot Drive on Friday. 23-year-old Martins hit a Lexus as it attempted to turn across his path.
When he hit the Lexus, Martins was thrown into the middle of the road. He was later pronounced dead by the Medical Examiner’s Office. Martins was an intelligence specialist assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 11, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. His personal decorations included a Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, an Iraq Campaign Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, and a Navy Unit Commendation. He lived in San Diego with his wife before his death.
