SANTA CRUZ, CALIFORNIA – A 60-year-old man was killed around 7:25 Friday night in a hit-and- run accident at Laurel and Felix streets. The man was in a crosswalk when he was hit by a large pickup truck. Captain Steve Clark said that the impact of the collision threw the man across the street and onto the curb. He sustained critical injuries in the accident. He subsequently died from those injuries.
The driver of the truck left the scene of the accident after he hit the pedestrian. Authorities have issued a countywide lookout alert for a 1980s pickup, possibly a Ford F-150. There may be damage to the left front of the vehicle from the collision. The truck was described as either dark blue or green.
Residents of the area were deeply shaken by the accident. No arrests have yet been made. Police and investigators are reportedly looking into ways to make the area safer for pedestrians. They are considering installing radar activated street signs and lighted crosswalks.
