VISTA, CALIFORNIA- A 24-year-old skateboarder was killed early Sunday when he rode in front of an oncoming car. The Sheriff’s Department said that the victim was heading west in the right side eastbound lane of Hacienda Drive near south Emerald Drive at 1 a.m. He was hit by a white 1987 BMW 325.
The BMW was driven by a 23-year-old man. Witnesses said the skateboarder went directly into the path of the car, which was heading east at the time. Paramedics treated the victim at the scene. However, he was pronounced dead before he could be taken to the hospital. His identity has not yet been released. The driver of the BMW was not arrested. However, officials said they investigation is still pending.
Skateboarders and drivers both need to be mindful of the rules of the road so that these kinds of accidents do not occur. Our thoughts are with the family of the young man killed, as well as with the driver of the car as everyone recovers from this tragedy.
