MOSS LANDING, CALIFORNIA – A man broke both of his legs in an accident on the morning of November 12 on Highway 1, just south of Jensen Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 25-year-old man was traveling in his 1999 Camaro north on Highway 1. He tried to pass northbound traffic. However, when he crossed into the southbound lanes to pass, he struck the left front corner of a 2001 Mercedes. The Mercedes was driven by a 42-year-old woman.

The impact of the collision caused the Mercedes to lose control and veer off the highway. A southbound Dodge Ram then tried to avoid the collision but was hit head-on by the Camaro. The Camaro spun 180 degrees and then hit the Mercedes again. A woman traveling behind the truck in an Acura, hit the debris that fell off the Camaro.

Emergency medical services teams transported the driver of the Camaro to Watsonville Community Hospital. He was later airlifted to San Jose Regional Medical Hospital for treatment of very serious injures. He sustained two broken legs in addition to other major injuries. The driver of the Mercedes complained of pain and was also taken to Watsonville Community Hospital. The remaining drivers were all treated at the scene and released. The CHP is conducting a full investigation into the accident.
