POWAY, CALIFORNIA – A woman walking in Poway on Monday morning was struck and killed by a car that jumped the sidewalk. According to the Sheriff’s Department, 36-year-old Kristen Ann Bedard was walking north on Community Road, south of Aubrey Street around 7 a.m. when she was hit. Sergeant J.T. Rothlein said that Bedard was a single mother who lived with her two children in Poway.
44-year-old Becky Anderson was the driver of the car that struck Bedard. She was arrested and booked into Las Colinas Detention Facility on suspicion of driving under the influence causing great bodily injury, as well as vehicular manslaughter. Bedard was the second woman killed while walking in the past two days. On Saturday night, Cydil Deann Kholmeyer was walking when she was hit by a full size Dodge pickup. She was taken to a hospital where she later died. The driver in that accident was also booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit and run causing death.
Two women have been killed in these tragic car and pedestrian accidents. Our hearts go out to their families, and especially Bedard’s children. If you have lost a loved one in an accident such as these, you may be able to recover under a wrongful death claim. These claims are available to certain surviving family members of those killed in accidents.
