SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – Two men were injured on Tuesday when they were pinned between two vehicles at a construction site downtown. The accident was reported at 12:20 p.m. at 10th Avenue and Market Street in East Village according to San Diego Fire Rescue Department spokesman Maurice Luque. The men were sitting on the tailgate of a truck eating lunch when a car backed up and hit the vehicle parked in front of the truck.
The impact of that collision pushed the truck into the vehicle parked behind it. Crews at the construction site witnessed the accident and pushed the vehicles apart as quickly as they were able. Both of the men who had been pinned between the vehicles were lying on the ground when firefighters arrived. The men, ages 25 and 35, were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. One was more seriously injured than the other. Their names and conditions have not yet been released.
Construction is a very large industry in the United States. Unfortunately, it is also a very dangerous injury. Every year, many construction workers are seriously injured in work-related accidents. In some accidents, construction workers are limited to worker’s compensation. However, sometimes the dangerous condition that injured the employee was the result of a third party’s behavior, and not the employer. In that case, additional recovery may be available.
