LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA – Two SUVs were in a violent collision on Thursday, December 17 in Long Beach. The collision occurred in the southbound lanes of the Long Beach Freeway in Long Beach near the junction with the Artesia Freeway around 7 p.m. According to the California Highway Patrol, one SUV collided with another larger SUV for unknown reasons.
The impact sent the smaller SUV off the roadway. Nine people were injured while traveling in the SUV that rolled over in the accident. Two children, ages 4 and 5, were among those injured. Four of the five adults in the SUV that rolled were ejected on impact. All nine people injured in the accident were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Five people were critically injured and the other four were moderately injured.
The two occupants of the larger SUV were not injured in the accident. Police officials are still trying to determine the cause of the accident. Ten Long Beach fire vehicles responded to the accident. The Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Compton Fire Department also reported to the scene. CHP officials are conducting a full investigation.
