JULIAN, CALIFORNIA – A 28-year-old man was killed Saturday when his motorcycle crossed into oncoming traffic and was hit head-on by a pickup truck. The accident occurred on state Route 78 just east of Pine Hills Road in Julian. Carl Davis Jr. was riding a 2007 CVR 600 motorcycle eastbound at around 12:30 p.m. He crossed the double yellow line for unknown reasons and was hit by a 1976 Chevrolet pickup truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Dean Young, the 47-year-old driver of the pickup was unable to react in time to avoid hitting the bike. Davis was pronounced dead tat the scene of the accident. A witness told officers that he was driving east on the two lane highway when the motorcycle passed him on the left. He was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time. The witness said he saw the accident scene just a short distance down the road from where he was passed.
This accident is a sad reminder about the consequences of poor and inattentive driving. Unfortunately, the consequences all too often involve serious injuries and even death.
