REDLANDS, CALIFORNIA – Federal investigators responded Monday to a single-engine airplane cash that killed two people 10 miles north of Redlands, according to San Bernardino County authorities. The aircraft, a Yakovlev YAK-52, crashed around 12:50 p.m. after taking off from Redlands Airport. A preliminary report issued by the Federal Aviation Administration, a man and woman were on board at the time of the accident. Both were killed.
The Yakovlev aircraft was originally designed as a Soviet trainer, acrobatic aircraft. The plane was currently owned by a Riverside man, according to FAA registration records. Investigators with the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board visited the crash site Monday afternoon. The full investigation by all the agencies is pending.
