SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – A woman who was struck and killed on Interstate 805 Sunday has been identified as 27-year-old Tanisha Marie Oates. Oates was standing in the northbound traffic lanes on I-805 north of state Route 54 around 12:30 a.m. Sunday when she was hit by several vehicles. She was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
21-year-old Niko Yoshante Williams was driving a 2000 Cadillac Escalade and was one of the people who struck Oates. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence causing bodily injury, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Art Arthans. He is currently being held in county jail on $50,000 bail. Investigators have not yet determined why Oates was standing on the freeway. A more thorough investigation is pending.
