ESCONDIDO, CALIFORNIA – Police arrested the driver of a car they claim did not stop after hitting and killing a teenage girl more than two years ago. 54-year-old Tiffany St. Ives was arrested Tuesday after police served a search warrant to her at her home. She was booked into the Vista jail on suspicion of driving in a hit-and-run accident resulting in death.
17-year-old Marlene Resendiz was crossing Grand Avenue in the evening hours of November 7, 2007. At that time, she was hit by a black Nissan Maxima. The driver then went about 200 yards before slowing down enough that Marlene fell off the car. St. Ives then sped away from the accident. A witness recently went to the police with the information that led them to St. Ives. Resendiz’s family said the arrest was bittersweet. St. Ives is being held in Vista and will be arraigned Thursday. Police are still looking for more witnesses to the accident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Escondido Police Department.
Our hearts go out to the Resendiz family. We are pleased that the family may now experience some degree of resolution. However, we understand that nothing can ever truly heal the pain surviving family members will experience.
