SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – A 65-year-old woman was killed Tuesday on the southbound Interstate 5 near downtown. A cabdriver clipped the back of her SUV and it subsequently overturned. The accident was reported at 7:46 a.m. All lanes of a stretch of the I-5 freeway were closed for about two and a half hours. Traffic was diverted to state Route 94. California Highway Patrol Office Brandon Garland said a 57-year-old cabdriver in a Ford Crown Victoria traveling approximately 65 miles per hour was making a lane change in which he went from the number 2 lane to the number 4 lane when he clipped the left rear of the Chevy Blazer.
The Blazer was also traveling about 65 miles per hour when it was hit. It overturned and came to rest on the freeway just north of Broadway. The driver of the Blazer died before she could be taken to the hospital. No one else was in her vehicle at the time. The driver of the cab, identified as Andai Ogbagebri, was interviewed by CHP Officers after the accident as were two other witnesses.
