LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – 67-year-old Michael Harris was one of two people who were killed in a car accident on Wednesday night on the northbound 605 Freeway. A Ford van carrying seven people was heading north in the number two lane and was near the intersection of the Artesia Freeway when it tried to move into the carpool lane. The van nearly struck a Mitsubishi Lancer traveling in the number one lane.
Both vehicles swerved to avoid a collision. Instead, they both ended up hitting the freeway divider. Five people were ejected from the van on impact. Harris and one other person were killed. Five other people were critically injured. The Mitsubishi rolled after hitting the center divider. The driver of that vehicle was hospitalized with moderate injuries. The California Highway Patrol reported that no one in the van had been wearing a seatbelt.
Our hearts go out to the families of those killed in this accident. We hope that all those who were injured will make a full and speedy recovery. This accident illustrates the importance of proper seatbelt use in case of an unexpected accident.
