SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – A two car accident in the carpool lanes of the Interstate 15 southbound caused miles of backup on the freeway in both directions Thursday morning. The California Highway Patrol said the accident occurred just south of Miramar Way shortly before 7:30 a.m. A vehicle experienced a tire blowout and was hit by a Toyota truck.
Two people were taken to the hospital for treatment following the accident, according to CHP officer Ray Scheidnes. Emergency vehicles blocked the fast lanes of both the north and southbound I-15. Both southbound carpool lanes were also blocked. At one point, the freeway was blocked for six miles between Camino del Norte and Miramar Way. The lanes were all cleared just before 9 a.m.
