ESCONDIDO, CALIFORNIA – A 29-year-old man was killed Friday night while tying to cross the street on Centre City Parkway at Brotherton Road. He was talking with a group of people just before 10:30 p.m. when he was hit by a southbound vehicle. The man, identified as Wesley Askins III of San Diego was thrown several yards toward the curb.
Escondido Police said the driver of the car stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators. There was no indication of any drugs or alcohol on the part of the driver. Askins was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Initial reports do not indicate that anyone else walking with Askins was injured.
