LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – At least three people were injured on a United Airlines flight on Tuesday. The plane encountered turbulence over the Atlantic Ocean during a trip from London to Los Angeles. There were 196 passengers and 15 crew members on Flight 935 when it took off from Heathrow Airport. The plane was diverted to Canada’s Montreal-Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport where it landed around noon eastern time. The plane had originally been scheduled to land in Los Angeles around 1:15 p.m. Pacific time.
United officials said that two passengers and a crew member received medical attention after landing. The passengers’ injuries were not life threatening. The plane was taken out of service for inspection. A replacement is being brought to Canada from Chicago to take the remaining passengers to Los Angeles. A former flight attendant who was on the plane at the time, Laura Desdorides, said the turbulence hit suddenly while the seat belt sign was off and crew members and passengers were walking around the cabin. Desdorides said the plane lost altitude very quickly and it was scary. She said it appeared that one person suffered chest injuries and another had leg injuries.
