SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – Friends and family of 17-year-old BreAnna Erickson mourned her death on Saturday after she died in a traffic accident the night before. A makeshift memorial was made next to the accident scene. BreAnna was a junior at Rancho Bernardo High.

San Diego Police said BreAnna died at the scene of the accident after a car she was riding in hit a truck head-on in the 12500 block of Sabre Springs Parkway. Authorities said the northbound Acura Legend she was in was speeding around a curve about 5:20 p.m. when it crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the box truck. BreAnna was in the backseat of the car at the time and was wearing a seatbelt. Four other teenagers were in the truck at the time of the accident. They were all injured, including the female driver, and were taken to area hospitals.

Rescuers had to use the Jaws of Life to pry open the car to get everyone out. Neither of the two people in the truck were injured. San Diego police were not able to provide any additional information about the other injured teens. Neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to be involved in the accident. Several area residents said that speeding is a chronic problem in that section of the parkway. BreAnna was described as a positive and loving person by friends. A vigil is being planned for 7:30 p.m. at Rancho Bernardo High School.
