SIMI VALLEY, CALIFORNIA – A worker at an alternative fuel plant died of fatal job injuries after an explosion on the afternoon of June 17. The worker, who has not yet been identified, was working in a Realm Industries’ facility at 480 E. Easy Street. Fire officials said the explosion caused a partial collapse of the building and put a hole in the roof.
The worker who was killed was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other workers in the facility at the time escaped without injuries. Authorities are currently investigating the blast. However, they say that it was a water based explosion. The plant’s work apparently involves extracting hydrogen from water to make fuel. In 2008, one worker was injured after the top of a hydrogen cylinder blew off. That explosion was much less intense than this one, which also shook the surrounding neighborhood.
Our hearts go out to the family of the man killed in this accident. Work accidents can be very harmful and sometimes even have these tragic results. When you are injured in a work related accident, you may be able to recover from your employer. However, there are sometimes applicable worker’s compensation laws which provide caps on what you can recover.
