ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA – Five Orange County restaurants received ground beef that has since been recalled because of possible El coli contamination. South Gate Meat Co. recalled a total of 35,000 pounds of beef late Tuesday night. 41 eateries will be affected by the recall, 36 of them are in L.A. County. The affected Orange County eateries are: George Burgers, Duke’s, Bill’s Burgers, Dino’s and Yellow Basket.
According to a statement by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, the contamination was discovered Tuesday. South Gate owner John Dristas said Wednesday that it had occurred at a slaughterhouse. The exact source of the bacteria is being investigated. So far there have been no reports of illnesses. The meat was produced between June 7 and June 21. Each package has the establishment number EST 6217 inside the USDA’s mark of inspection. The E. coli strain is a bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in the most severe cases kidney failure and death.
When food is contaminated due to a negligent or reckless company or employee and you get sick, you may have a claim against the person responsible for your illness. Berman & Riedel, LLP is a plaintiff’s personal injury and wrongful death law firm in San Diego, California.
