SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – A 32-year-old woman was killed Thursday night when her SUV hit a freeway median, was hit by a car, and flipped over. The driver, who was a resident of Cardiff, was the only occupant of a 1997 black Infiniti SUV traveling north on Interstate 5 near Gilman Drive. For unknown reasons, just before midnight, she hit the median.
Her SUV the crossed back into traffic where it rolled and was hit by a white Ford Focus. The Focus subsequently veered off the freeway and hit a tree. The Infiniti came to rest upside down in the traffic lanes. The Infiniti’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The deceased woman’s name has not yet been released pending notification of her family. The northbound lanes of the I-5 were closed and traffic was diverted to state Route 52 until around 3:30 a.m.
Our hearts go out to the family of the woman killed in this accident. We also wish the driver of the Ford a full and speedy recovery. Tragic accidents such as these are unfortunately all too common on the California freeways. If you have been involved in an accident caused by someone else’s negligent or wrongful behavior, you may wish to speak with a personal injury or wrongful death attorney to ensure your legal rights are protected.
